A Perfect Mediator

After the terrifying display of God’s glorious majesty and His perfect holiness the people of Israel draw back in fear, seeking a mediator to stand in their place. Their reaction and request for a mediator demonstrates the need that we all have before God’s law and its perfect demands upon all our thoughts and actions. Just as the law is a display of God’s character so His provision of a mediator also displays his mercy and compassion. And just as the Israelites needed to learn the old covenant though the mediator chosen by God, so we also who have come to faith in Christ must learn the new covenant through the mediator between God and men.
