The King is Coming
Series Jesus Through Luke's Eyes
The Olivet discourse is just as crucial for its content as it is for the place from which it was delivered. The disciples have asked about the signs of Christ's coming and the close of the age. Remarkably, the disciples are asking Jesus when His return would take place. The disciples believed, surprisingly, from the Old Testament, that Jesus would return because God had a future plan for Israel. That plan would be accomplished through the Messiah. They knew that Jesus was that Messiah, the greater Son of David. He was the Son of man from Daniel's prophesy. He is the coming glorious King. He will reign in glory and will judge His enemies. A beautiful paradise is coming! This is what the inquiring disciples correctly presupposed, therefore we can do the same. A beautiful paradise is coming. History is not out of control. God is leading every facet to His great consummation forever.
