Jesus Raises the Son of the Widow of Nain

In this first great miracle of Jesus rasing the dead, the key events and
characters are examined: the funeral itself, the widow, the son, the crowd,
God the Father in providence, but especially the central focus of the
account, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is seen as Lord of creation, therefore
Lord over death. His compassion causes Him to act to the benefit of the
widow (and the son!)by restoring him to her in her time of most desperate
need. We have a picture here of Jesus' ability to raise the spiritually
dead to new life in Himself as well as the promise of the final resurrection
of all His people at that last great day.
