Blessed Eyes of the Saints

The New Covenant must have been joy to Jeremiah, even as it is to us. But do we oft forget how glorious is what we have in Christ?

The Gospel and our Lord Jesus is better than all the kingdoms, all the houses, all the lands, all the riches, than man ever possessed. God's Lamb slain to save sinners, what a glorious possession it is!

Jesus told us that even Abraham rejoiced to see His day, and was very glad!

Jesus told us that what we see in the Gospel was something that Old Testament kings and prophets longed to see but couldn't. The eyes that see what Jesus revealed and became are blessed indeed!

Think of it: we Saints are more blessed than King David, than Moses, than Isaiah, then all the Old Testament saints, for we have Christ and the Gospel fulfilled!

Yet the Hebrew believers considered going back to the temple, to the old sacrifices, to Jerusalem, to their synagogues and culture.

All the book of Hebrews is an argument that Christ and His Gospel are better than all that! We have a better sacrifice, better sprinkling of blood, better priest, better veil, better Holy of Holies, and a better Sabbath.

In Hebrews 11, the writer makes the astounding statement that Abraham and others desired something even better than the literal fulfillment of the promise of the land - that they in fact sought a heavenly country and a heavenly city!

So Hebrew believers ought not to leave behind the Gospel and recover their land and their Jerusalem and their temple worship, because those things would never have satisfied Abraham!

So too we believers must beware of valuing buildings and denominations and religious trappings more than our Savior and our Gospel!
