A. His Witness Concerning Himself

John 5:31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.

  1. This verse doesn't give a sort of absolute meaning: witnessing is lying. No, the connotation is the general rule that one witness is not enough for establishing the truth in public affairs.

  2. A second witness is necessary, as in "… God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will." (Hebrews 2:4).

Deuteronomy 19:15 …at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

  1. Shamefully, those who profess to be making the Bible so easy to understand have caused the most serious damage.

  2. The Lord designed His word so that only those who obediently and faithfully study it can unlock its innermost secrets.

  3. Those who reject its infallibility are doomed to view it as a closed book – unworthy of the effort necessary to discover its truths.

  4. What do you magnify – is it the same as what God magnifies?

Psalm 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
