Where does the word "Protestant" come from and what does it mean to be a Protestant? It was a term of derision directed at the Lutheran Princes who set out their beliefs in reply to the ultimatum laid down by Ferdinand, acting at the behest of the Holy Roman Emperor at the Diet of Spiers in 1526.
