The Coming of Christ With Power
Series The Gospel of Mark
Jesus declared in Mark 9:1 that some standing there would not taste death until after the kingdom of God had come with power. What did He mean? He couldn't have been referring to the "second coming" or second advent. That brings about the resurrection and judgment day. Clearly that hasn't happened yet. I believe he was referring to His "coming" in judgment upon the nation of Jerusalem in 70 AD. The destruction of the nation and the city was horrific and it was a might demonstration of God's power over them. Jesus said these things would happen to them because they did not recognize the "day of their visitation." A lengthy portion of Josephus' account of the destruction of Jerusalem is included and in reading it, it is obvious that Jesus was not exaggerating when He said, "For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will." (Matt 24:21)
