A Biblical Theology of the Sabbath/Rest

Is keeping the Sabbath, merely following a bunch of "do not do" commands one day of the week? Or, is it really pointing beyond itself, as the whole Law does, to its perfect fulfillment in Jesus Christ?

Pastor Ryan disagrees with those who hold to a "Sabbatarian" view, and provides a biblical-theological (salvation history) framework to show why he believes that the Sabbath is indeed not an "eternal moral law" or "creation command/ordinance".

Starting in the beginning, he works from Genesis through the Penteteuch, tracing how the seed principle develops throughout progressive revelation.

The Sabbath points to a day of rest - the seventh day, which according to the NT, has come in Jesus Christ.

How do we 'keep' the Sabbath? Believing in the gospel of Jesus Christ and entering into GOD'S rest (not ours) through Him alone.

Final note: we who are Reformed Baptists often criticize covenant theology for equating circumcision (sign of the Abrahamic covenant) in the OT w/ baptism in the NT, yet many do the same when they equate the Sabbath (sign of the Mosaic covenant)with the Lord's Day.
