Today I will continue our sermon series which is an expository study through the book of Ecclesiastes. We find ourselves in the second section of the book, which is where Solomon seeks to prove the assertion he made in the first section. In the sermons in chapter three we have been considering the amazing providence of God over all the affairs of this world. But we have also been considering an even more amazing fact, and that is fallen man's desire and attempt to “play God” by trying to fashion a reality that is more to his liking. But, like it or not, God is always at work accomplishing His will, and that is where “life under the sun” can become perplexing and frustrating. But that raises an intriguing question for Solomon. If indeed this good God is truly sovereign, then why is there so much injustice and unrighteousness in the world? How is it to be accounted for? Why does it exist? Why doesn't God put an end to it? These are some of the issues that will be developed in this sermon, and the answers are very important for Christians. Again it is my prayer is that God will be pleased to bless the His word preached as we continue our study.
