The Birth of the Messiah

Luke tells us of the birth of the Messiah by informing us of the historical setting: the Roman occupiers have required a census to be taken. Joseph & Mary journey to Bethlehem to register. There Jesus was born. Luke's theme of God's sovereignty over history instructs us to live knowing that the Lord has sovereignly planned for us to live at this time of history. We need discernment to perceive God's sovereign purposes being fulfilled even in the mundane, simple things of everyday life.
