Sacrificial giving assumes an understanding of the role of service to the Christian life. A servant gives of himself, so we too should give of ourselves in all things to others. This is easily said when speaking of loving the brethren and acting in humility of mind - until that comes to getting out the checkbook and giving with no thought of getting back.
