The Helmet of Salvation

109

The Whole Armor of God - Message 9 - The Helmet of Salvation. Why do we need the helmet of salvation? Furthermore, if we are saved by grace alone through faith alone what does Paul mean when he tells us to take up the helmet of salvation? We learn in this message that we need the helmet to overcome discouragement, doubt, and temptation as Satan battles for our mind. He tempts us to give up hope, to give up on faith, to give up on love, and to give up on the church. The helmet of salvation is our sure defense. Putting on the helmet is not "getting saved", it is being reminded by the gospel that we are saved (conversion), we are being saved (sanctification), and we will be saved (glorification). As we meditate on each of these parts of the saving work of Christ who is the Author and Finisher of our faith, we see that we have been saved from sin, death, wrath, hell, bondage to sin, and from self. We also have been saved to eternal life, good works, fellowship, to carry out a mission, and to the glory of God for His good pleasure. So how do we take up the helmet of salvation? By faith, we believe the gospel. We walk in the Spirit. We are filled with the Spirit. We do not lose heart. and we look with expectation for the soon return of our Lord Jesus Christ, taking hope in the truth of His return.
