Sifting and saving

As their time in room where they ate their supper draws to a close, the Lord Jesus issues a painful warning about the disciples' coming trial at the hands of Satan. He offers Peter, in particular, a gracious assurance about his prayers for them. Peter responds with a foolish boast about his willingness and ability to stand, leading to a sad prediction from the Lord about how soon he will fall. The episode teaches us not to presume and not to despair, but to rest humbly upon the prayers of our Saviour.
