The Evidence of Unconditional Love: Reconciliation with Those Who Don't Desire It

155

Today we turn our attention to an even greater challenge that, if demonstrated in our lives, is an unmistakable evidence of a truly transformed life because it is so contrary to our natural way of thinking. Today we ask the question, how should we respond to unbelievers who have chosen to target us as enemies?

BIG IDEA: Authentic Christians don’t wait for other’s to be lovable; but follow the pattern of Christ and demonstrate love while these enemies are still indulging in sin.

I. Christians must actively love those who have hurt them in the past and would hurt them in the present if given the opportunity
A. Invite them v. 17
B. Expect God to save & transform them v. 17-18
C. Make them feel welcome v. 19b
D. Accept them into the local church family v. 26-27
E. Disciple them to overcome their past v. 28

  • Their Ungodly past worldview
  • Their Ungodly past habits

II. Christians Must Give Sinful Offenders the Chance to Have a Fresh Start

Notice the Flow:
A. God demonstrated love to us while we were still enemies. (Romans 5:8)
B. He adopted us into his family (Romans 9:4).
C. He entrusted us with responsibility (2 Corinthians 5: 18-20). He gave us a new start.

Now Ananias follows God’s example:
A. Ananias demonstrated love to Saul of Tarsus
B. Saul demonstrated love to Jews & Gentiles.
C. Later he encourages these new believers to make the most of their fresh start – such were some of you (1 Cor. 6:11)

• And the flow has continued down to us who have been saved
• Don’t let it stop with us.
