Becoming a Merciful and Faithful High Priest

Main Idea: Because Jesus was a real human being, we have help in temptation!

He was made like His brothers in every respect (17a)

• Purpose: So that…

 He might become a merciful and faithful high priest (17b)

• A high priest

• Merciful

• Faithful

• In the service of God

 He might make propitiation for the sins of the people (17c)

• Basis for His ability to help:

 For because He was tempted in that which He suffered (18a)

 He is able to help those who are being tempted (18b)

Applications

We must recognize the wrath of God and the seriousness of sin!

We must recognize the humanity of Christ!

We must recognize the graciousness of God in giving us a high priest who helps us!
