Man of God, Feet of Clay
Series Genesis
57
It is a very good thing to have heroes in the Christian faith, but it is always bad to have idols. Sometimes we treat godly men and women like they were celebrities, and the Reformed faith is not immune. But this is dangerous, both for ourselves and for those whom we idolize. Noah was the most righteous man in his generation, indeed, nearly the ONLY righteous man in his generation. But Noah fell. After following the Lord faithfully literally for centuries, Noah fell. The best and bravest of men are, at their best, just men. To build our faith on the godliest of men and not upon the Holy Scriptures is a very dangerous endeavor. Let us learn the many valuable lessons from the fall of Noah.
