Series Exploring Exodus
Last week's message did not record due to an equipment malfunction, so we do not have the first message on the first commandment. We saw last week that the first commandment teaches us that there is only one true and living God and that we must not place anyone or anything above, next to or in addition to him. The theological implications of having only one God include (1) that there is only one Lord who is sovereign over heaven and earth; (2) there is only one Teacher and one truth; and (3) there is only one Savior and one way of salvation.
There are also political implications to the first commandment. The Bible is not a book without political significance. The fact that there is only one God means that this God presides over all human governments, has expectations of them, and holds all nations accountable to himself.
