Israel Reconciled at Last to Christ

David's rejection by Israel, and his restoration to the throne is a beautiful type of the Lord Jesus.

Our Savior was rejected by His own flesh and blood the Jews. During that time of rejection, an unnumbered host of Gentiles are receiving the Gospel and became Christ's people.

David asked the question, why are my own people the last to call for my return? The Lord Jesus predicted such a restoration in the end, when Jerusalem cries out to Him, Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.

The Apostle Paul grieved over Israel's rejection, even as he rejoiced over the offer of the Gospel to the Gentiles.

In the case of King David, the Jews finally did receive him back, when a possessiveness was stirred up in their hearts by the other tribes of Israel.

So too the Scriptures reveal that the salvation of the Gentiles will at last provoke Israel to jealousy and to the receiving of the Lord Jesus in the end.

The incident of the stone rejected becoming the cornerstone has at least a double fulfillment: though Israel rejected the Savior, the Gentiles received Him - and it is the Lord's doing, marvelous in our eyes!

But then, one day, Israel herself will receive Him, when they see Him whom they have pierced. Psalm 118 confirms that the very language our Savior required will be upon the lips of the Jewish people, when one day He is exalted in their midst as the head of the corner.
