How the deacons serve

The position deacon is not just some glorified layman, but rather it is that of a spiritual servant who is serving in a material world. The apostles even managed to demonstrate this principle by not issuing a command to form a deacon board but to give a suggestion and to phrase it in such a way that the people would see the mutual benefits to the idea. As such the deacons are that go between, helping both the congregation and the pastor.
