The Role of Women in the Church's Worship - Introduction

140

From the question of "idol meats" Paul turned his attention to the place of women in the Church's corporate life. The intensely emotional and divisive nature of this issue makes it likely that the Corinthians raised it to Paul in their letter to him, though he gave no indication that this was the case. But what matters isn't how Paul came to be aware of the situation, but how he addressed it. And in doing so he began by commending the Corinthians, which shows that he regarded this issue as resulting from an immature attempt at faithfulness on the part of these women, not a rebellious spirit. Their actions reflected their commitment to hold firmly to the instruction he'd delivered to them.
