Defining the True Disciple

140

Much is made of making disciples and of discipling others. What kind of Christian are we then trying to produce? We read in Acts 11:26 tells us that in Antioch “the disciples were first called Christians.” What this tells us is that before we were called Christians we were called disciples. In Matthew 5:1,2 we learn that the Lord Jesus moved himself from the crowds that had massed around him and the disciples gathered to him on the mount. Again here we see a difference from the many who massed around Christ and the few who were his disciples. The question is “What is a disciple?”
1. The disciple is a person who comes out from those who mass around Jesus to adhere to him. They are a narrower group than those that group around Christ.
2. The disciple is a person whose intellect has been awoke to learn of the Lord Jesus.
3. The disciple is a person who desire the impact of His presence upon their lives…
