Be a Steadfast Truth-Defender

One preacher said of this text, "this states Timothy's life's business". Paul's subject is how to face apostasy or those who depart from the faith. Having exhorted Timothy to "study...rightly dividing the word of truth", he now encouraged him to avoid empty words. Such men who err "concerning the truth" may used the same words but pervert their meaning. The sovereign grace pastor must use care in preaching.
