This broadcast deals with the "Black Lives Matter" movement. One of the founders of BLM named Alicia Garza believes that Assata Shakur, who is on the FBI Most Wanted Terrorists list, is an important part of the Black Liberation Movement and uses Shakur's writing in her advocacy work. Assata Olugbala Shakur (born JoAnne Deborah Byron; July 16, 1947), whose married name was Chesimard, is an African-American activist, member of the former Black Panther Party (BPP) and Black Liberation Army (BLA) and a convicted murderer. Between 1971 and 1973, Shakur was convicted of several crimes and was the subject of a multi-state manhunt.

In May 1973, Shakur was involved in a shootout on the New Jersey Turnpike, in which she was accused of killing New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster and grievously assaulting Trooper James Harper. BLA member Zayd Malik Shakur was also killed in the incident, and Shakur was wounded.
