Sermon Outline:

Introduction

• The Child of God vs. The Child of the Devil (1 John 3:10)

• Love that Flows from the Love of God (1 John 3:16-18)

• Love toward the Brethren flows from being Born of God

Three Consequences to Loving in Deed & in Truth (vs. 19-23)

  1. Affirm that we are of the Truth (v. 19a)

• Love is only true when it is put into action

• Evidence that the Truth of God Dwells in Us (Hebrews 10:16; John 13:35)

  1. Reassure our Hearts (vs.19b-21)

• “Assure” = “Set at Ease or Rest” (v. 19b; Isaiah 32:17; Hebrews 10:22; Galatians 5:22)

• If Our Conscience or Heart Condemns Us (v. 20; Titus 3:10-11; Psalm 139:1-4)

• If Our Conscience or Heart does not Condemn Us (v. 21; 2 Corinthians 1:21)

  1. Strengthen our Confidence Before God in Prayer (vs.22-23) – Next Week, Lord Willing

Conclusion and Application

• Does Your Heart or Conscience Testify to a life conducted in simplicity and godly sincerity, loving the Brethren in Deed and in Truth?

• If Your Heart Condemns You, Won’t You This Day Come to Christ in True Faith with a Repentant Heart?

• God Knows Your Works (Isaiah 64:6), Whether They are Done in Fear, to Earn His Favor, or Whether They are Done from the Love of God Abiding in You (Ephesians 5:2)
