Growing in Knowledge

Though it is not always possible to give one-sentence summaries for a particular book of the Bible, I think a good summary of 2 Peter is given at the end of the book in chapter 3:18, “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Hope was one of the main themes of 1 Peter – Hope in the midst of difficulty, trial, and persecution. Knowledge is one of the main themes of 2 Peter. True knowledge of God and of Christ leads to true peace and protection from the dangerous ideas that would tempt us and lead us away from the truth.
This morning we will look at the first 2 verses and the opening encouragement of the book that you - Grow in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. First, we will note Peter's authorship of this book, second, the privilege of faith, and third the prayer that we grow in knowledge.
