Discoveries like the recently unearthed 'Pool of Siloam' mentioned in John 9 should interest us, but not surprise us at all, because John's gospel isn't merely 'grounded in history,' and in need of point by point verification as we dig up more and more of Israel. John's gospel is an absolutely trustworthy history. In fact, to use Peter's word, it is an eyewitness account.
