The Road to Corinth is Paved with Understanding
Series 1 Corinthians
Let every thing be done in love,
The temporary gifts of the Spirit were never intended to bring a sanctifying maturity in Christ although they were true spiritual gifts.
As coherence brings power, clarity , and understanding to Worship and comprehension, they were truly works of the Holy Spirit, pointing the Corinthian believers to the Christ, bringing edification, comfort, and encouragement to the Church.
So Paul sought to teach them all to give thanks for the work of the Spirit in each individual's life, but it was the gift of prophecy (i.e. proclamation of the glory and majesty of God) that was spoken in a common language of the day . Paul asserts the value of moving on from the gift of a tongue to the gift of proclaiming the understandable prayer, praise, and song of the believers; joining with the Amen of assent.
