Sermon Outline:

Introduction

• In being Described in 1 Peter 2:5, 9-10 – Great Honor is Ascribed
• Only by the Grace of God – Undeserved & Unmerited Honor
• “beg” = “Strongly Urge” – The Believer to Conduct himself Honorably “among the Gentiles,” as “Beloved” & “Sojourners and Pilgrims” (vs. 11-12)

I. Two Ways to Conduct of Lives Honorably (vs. 11, 13-14, 16)

• “Abstain from Fleshly Lusts” (vs. 11)
• “Fleshly Lusts” – All Sinful Passions and Affections of the Body and Soul (Romans 8:7)
• “War Against the Soul” – A Ruinous Affect on the Soul (Romans 7:23, 15; 6:16)
• “Abstain” - “Make No Provision for the Flesh, to Fulfill its Lusts (Romans 13:14)
• “Submit Yourselves to Every Ordinance [Institution] of man” (v. 13-14,16; Romans 13:1-7; Acts 4:18-20)
• A Word of Caution (v. 16; 2 Peter 2:10; Daniel 2:21)

II. The Several Reasons for Conducting ourselves Honorably in this World (vs. 12, 15)

• That those who Speak Evil Against Us May Glorify God in the Day of Visitation (v. 12)
• That the “Ignorance of Foolish Men” be Silenced (v. 15)
• For the sake of Lord - for His Glory Ultimately (vs. 12)
• “This is the will of God” (v. 15)

Conclusion/Application (v. 17)

• “Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.”
