The great question of the text is how can those who follow Christ be offended at the words of Christ? The aim of John is to demonstrate that those who cannot comprehend or fully follow Christ, do so because they are not true disciples. They follow Christ for what they expect He will do for them. True disciples follow Christ because He is Lord and Savior. They want Christ!
