The Sinfulness of Self-Esteem

We think far too much of ourselves. This fact is readily observed in Christians who defend self-esteem and claim that you need to love yourself before you love God and your neighbor. However, the Scriptures don't support such thinking at all. There is not a third great commandment. Jesus spoke of only two. The Scriptures assume self-love and move us toward rejecting it. Our culture is saturated with self-indulgence and self-love.
