Home Rule, Rome Rule! Why our Protestant forefathers resisted Home Rule 100 years ago

The Ulster Covenant of 1912 was the response of Ulster Protestants to the growing Home Rule crisis. By 1912 the threat of Home Rule had been hanging over Unionists in Ireland for more than 25 years, since 1886.

In marking the centenary of the signing of that Covenant we want to consider why did our Protestant forefathers resist Home Rule?
