The Spiritual Slave Market

Christians often use religious jargon to express what we believe and practice. This can be a handy form of communication when we all know what we are talking about. But, there is a danger that when we use this jargon that the significance of the words become obscured. The biblical words Redemption and Redeemer are good examples of this fact. There is an assumption behind these words that is significant but is often neglected. These words are marketplace words and a particular kind of marketplace in particular – the slave market.
