Jesus Gets What He Wants

167 ( 142 | 25 )

As news of all that Jesus was doing spread, his following increased–the crowd almost crushing him at times. At the same time, his opposition increased as well–to the point they wanted to destroy him. On one side, there is much hope and excitement concerning Jesus, but there is fear, confusion and anger on the other. And yet, at this stage, it is only the demons who seem to know who Jesus really is. And it is they who show us, albeit from their evil perspective, the only appropriate response to him– they are the ones who fall down before him, confess his name, crying, "You are the Son of God," and subject themselves to him when he commands them to silence.
When new and amazing things come along, there is often much of the same response– hope and excitement, as well as fear and confusion, and sometimes anger. Like new wine and old wineskins, Jesus doesn't fit neatly into our systems or expectations, so we react in these ways. But when we learn who he really is–the Son of God–reverent worship and obedience is the only right and true response. In the end, every knee will bow before him, and every tongue will confess he is Lord.
