Before and after

In these few verses we see some before and after points of view on the children of Israel now that they have come out of Egyptian bondage. They are on the cusp of a national change in the next chapter but here is a type of transition for them; who they were and where they came from as opposed to who they are and where they now find themselves. The Christian life is no different, granted some of us were saved at an early age so don't have as much bad history as others but that doesn't change the fact we are all born sinners and need God to come into our lives and make a big difference for us.
