The Godly Mind

25

Aim: To more fully appreciate everything that God would have us enjoy—all in Christ.

Doctrine: The godly mind sets the stage for a good and fulfilling life. What we ponder most shapes who we are. All God-honoring entities—be they uncreated or created—are permitted as objects of our contemplation.

Exegesis: The wondrous progress of the godly mind: a redeemed thought life (v. 8) leads to sanctified action (v. 9a) which results in covenant blessing (v. 9b).

Further application: How to enhance the godly mind: first, be determined that there is more happiness in Christ, than in sin; then, thoroughly enjoy the amazing treasures found in Christ.

Key verse: v. 8 ''Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.''
