Zeal for Zion: Christ will not rest

Intro: This passage continues the Song of the Anointed One that began in 61:10. It serves the purpose of showing the zeal and commitment of Christ to accomplish salvation. This commitment can be divided into three parts.

  1. Christ's Zeal for Zion.
  2. New Status and New Name.
  3. Appointment of Watchmen.

You should hear this passage as not just the prophet, Isaiah, speaking, but hear the voice of the eternal Son of God who dedicated Himself to be our redeemer and who came and obeyed the Father perfectly. He says, “For Zion's sake I will not hold My peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest…” He will not rest until He brings His people to salvation!

Have you noticed that Isaiah comes back to this theme on a regular basis? The theme of encouraging the church in the faithful love of God. The Lord will not leave off the work of His hands, but will be sure to see it through to completion. Have you wondered at the reason for this repetition? The repetition suggests 1. That we need to hear this message over and over again throughout our lives. 2. That we are prone to forget God's promises. 3. That Satan tries to use this against us, turning us away from the faithful love of God to become weighed down by guilt or fear.

But the Lord Jesus Christ, the Anointed One says, I will not rest...
