Luke 22:63-23:25 – Blasphemy True and False – Sermon Outline Intro: Blasphemy is to speak ill of, or regard lightly, God Almighty. Blasphemers have a low and negative view of God and His people, and because God is Lord and demands obedience, they hate Him/His people. Need: Blasphemers are under Satan's power, and can be found inside and outside the Church, as we see Jew and Gentile converge in an unholy, blasphemous, greedy, self-preserving alliance to crucify Christ. Theme: Blasphemers hate Christ and His people and will do anything to destroy them. The Jewish leaders mock and mistreat Christ, then charge Him with blasphemy in a sham trial. The Jewish blasphemers take Christ to Pilate and claim Christ is seditious against the Romans. Pilate and Herod pass Christ between each other, mocking Him, while becoming friends. Pilate caves to the Jewish crowds demanding Christ be crucified despite His innocence.

The Apostles were released from prison by an angle of the Lord and when found in the temple preaching the word of God the High Priest had them re-arrested.

The appalling human injustice of Pilate knowingly sentencing an innocent man to death in the place of a guilty one subserved God's great and just purpose of freeing us from our deserved condemnation through the substitution of Christ.

Authoritarianism seems to be on the rise. People and organizations want control. And it was the same way back during Jesus' earthly ministry, too. The Sanhedrin had been struggling up and down for centuries to maintain their power; and now, by overturning the tables and merchandise in the Temple, Jesus had come in and put a death blow to their power. They came and demanded Him to explain Himself and tell them whose authority He was under. It wasn't that being a scribe or a high priest was evil in itself. The problem was that these men had taken their God-given power and used it for their own purposes. And they failed to see and acknowledge that the Messiah Himself was standing right there in front of them. Jesus asked them a question in return concerning John's baptism – whether it was from God's authority or men's. But they preferred to shuffle around instead of dealing with the honest question and have their tyranny be impaired. Jesus had authority from heaven to judge the Temple because He was the Lord of the Temple. Who do you think Jesus is? Either the Bible and Jesus' testimony concerning Himself are a big lie, or else they really are true – just as they claim to be. Who is Jesus to you?

From Story to Glory! Acts 6:1-15; 7:1-60 In Stephen's dying moments we are given a glimpse of a man who is still leaning on the Lord. When the hardships of life pile in on you, you can take a lesson from this man. Learn to take a couple of simple steps and it will make your way a little better.Learn to call on God in every situation.Learn to give your burdens to the Lord.One day, this life will be over and we will go into the presence of the Lord. I do not expect Him to stand up when I meet Him. I do expect to bow before Him to give Him my worship and to cast my crowns at His feet. I want to hear Him say, "Well done good and faithful servant." God never wastes the blood of His saints. Saul would one day see the same glory that Stephen saw and would behold the Son of God and hear Him speak! Where does God live? What kind of shape is Gods house in today? Today would be a good day to begin a home improvement project. Are you willing to be all that God wants you to be?

We gather for morning worship at 9:30 to praise our God through song, giving, prayer, and the preaching of His Word. Mark 11.27-33 will present to us Jesus the King of Kings and official delegates of the Sanhedrin (Jewish religious leadership council) challenging His authority. Those Sanhedrin members believed tradition granted them the authority to "put Him in His place." We need to assess these issues and our own view of tradition, among other things. We've talked a lot about hypocrisy in the Christian church, but what about in its Leader? How can we determine if the teachings of Jesus are good and reliable?

Jesus Christ is the "One Man" Who can be the Sacrifice, Substitute, and Savior that we need.

Paul's conversion testimony is shared for the second out of three times it will be shared in the book of Acts. Paul contextualizes this particular testimony to draw his Jewish audience in as much as he can without compromising the gospel in any way. Also, Paul's life provides believer's from any age important takeaways that we can apply in our day-to-day lives. We come to understand we should choose duty over deliverance, that earthly success is not a measuring stick for faithfulness, God's Word is the final authority of right and wrong, not our conscience, as well as many other practical applications.
