From the beginning of Genesis, God warns Adam and Eve that there would be enmity between her seed and the seed of the snake. Last week we saw the enmity start between Cain and Abel. Join us this week as the enmity plays out and men depart from the living God to go their own way. Yet in the midst of the gloom is a light. Another son will choose to serve the Lord and the remnant will continue. Join us as we look at Cain's departure and the birth of Seth.
This lesson covers Ezek. 33 and overviews chapter 34.

The professing church bears God's name, but where it actually departs from him, there he brings judgement, not to utterly destroy, but that a remnant may be brought to repentance. Ezekiel 6 is a warning to the worldly church in our age to turn back to God.

What are the people of God to do when few in number vs. the sceptical masses? Malachi records such a time. Those who feared the Lord, spoke together often and thought upon His name. These are God's people, He hears, remembers and spares them.

In verse 9 of Philippians 1, Paul prays for us to be able to parse truth from falsehood. Many believe this to be an easy task. The reality is, however, that in this world, truth can be rather nebulous to discern. This message explores how essential God-given discernment is to finding truth and how Christ's church can tell the difference between truth and falsehood.

Acts 11:18
"When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life."
King James Version

🗡️ Sermon delivered at Pilgrim Baptist Church on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at 2:15 pm. 🗡️
This expository sermon is based on Romans 9:26-29 and teaches about the remnant, the one time sacrifice, and God's election of national Israel.
Romans 9:26-29 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God. Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved: For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth. And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.

Pastor Allen Fox - Jeremiah 42:1-2
God has had a remnant down through the generations.

Future prophecy can be both terrifying and comforting at the same time. There will be horrific events in the future as man's evil is displayed and God's wrath is poured out. Daniel 12 points out that God remains in control even during the time of the Anti-Christ for He continues to protect His godly remnant people who will populate the Millennium.

Grace Orthodox Presbyterian - Zephaniah 2:4-7

This expository sermon is based on Romans 11:5-6.
It gives biblical evidence of the remnant and explains why God has not forsaken his people, the nation of Israel.
Romans 11:5-6 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Philippians 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ!

In The Magician's Nephew C.S. Lewis retells the story of creation. As the Christ-figure sings into a dark world life begins to grow on the hills and plains. One observer said, "It was beyond comparison, the most beautiful noise he had ever heard." God's beautiful, powerful voice truly created all things. So God has an intricate relationship with his world. He loves his mountains, hills, ravines, valleys, and all the life they support. They are his handiwork, the fruit of his labors.
In Ezekiel 6 God tells his prophet Ezekiel to set his face against the mountains and the hills, ravines, and valleys of Israel and prophesy against them: "Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you" (3). God again sings to his creation. But now he sings a funeral song. God wants us to believe that sin brings desolation on creation and destruction to humanity. So he both describes and explains to his prophet, and to his audience, the judgment he would pour out on Judah.

"Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." (Prov. 14:34).

In this expository sermon, Paul brings the Old Testament prophet Elijah, to the witness stand to show why God has not cast away His people, and why God has always had a remnant.
Romans 11:2-4 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying, Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

"Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." (Prov. 14:34).

"Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." (Prov. 14:34).

If you pay attention to the news, you've probably felt at times that the world is spinning out of control and that evil is winning. You see the horrors of terrorism, war, crime, corruption and natural disasters. The list goes on and on. Sometimes it can be depressing. Some wonder whether God is really in charge of world events. Then you come to realize your own country consists of a bunch of malcontented rich people who are amusing themselves to death. I mean, if you woke up each morning with the concern of starving to death, would you care about which pronouns that people use to refer to you? Romans 11 shows us that God is in charge and that His promises and His purpose will not fail. Romans 11 tells us that in the future, the Jewish people will turn to Christ in unprecedented numbers. God is not finished with the Jews. One other practical aspect of Romans 11 is that it helps us to look beyond ourselves to God's great purpose for history, which should lead us to worship Him for His glorious ways. Paul ends the chapter with an eruption of praise as he is caught up with the truths that he writes about here. Sometimes we get so self-focused that we forget that our eyes should be on God and His glory. "His plan includes us, but it's not ultimately about us." It's about His glory over the whole earth!
Two sides of the same coin being chosen by god and our freewill to choose Him.

An examination of God's continuing charges against the people of Judah which will result in their captivity Their depravity is total, they are guilty of not just spiritual adultery but sexual immorality as a part of their idolatry, as well as a lack of fear of their God. As a result, God again declares judgment is coming, but promises to mercifully reserve a remnant.
