How does believers' behavior show their blessedness? Matthew 5:7–9 prepares us for the morning sermon on the Lord's Day. In these three verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that believers' behavior shows their blessedness by showing that they are about to come into their inheritance in Christ.
The Birth of a Miracle. Luke 1:26-37 The birth of Jesus Christ was a miracle. The miracle of the birth of Jesus is that He was virgin-born.The virgin birth is one of the great truths of the Bible. No greater height of prophetic truth did ever a prophet rise when Isaiah declared that Jesus was be born of a virgin. For hundreds of years the virgin birth was revealed, but the hour came when the virgin birth became a reality. This child was a baby with an earthly mother, but no earthly father. This child was a baby that had a heavenly Father, but no earthly mother. This child was a virgin born child!Whose blood was in the Lord Jesus? It was the very blood of God! The result was, He was sinless, and therefore being sinless, He could be our Substitute!
Then comes the evening service - which again I want to earnestly ask you to attend, if at all possible. We are going to begin a short series Sunday night on a spiritual discipline that is very unusual to most of us. God calls us to this spiritual discipline at least 20 times in the Bible (likely many more than that), but it is probably very foreign to many of us. What I'm talking about is Scriptural mediation. We will begin at Psalm 1.1-3 this Sunday night to have Scriptural meditation introduced to us, and then have two or three more sermons in this series. I hope I ask kindly enough - would you please make every effort to be in church Sunday night? I am convinced that Scriptural meditation is a missing discipline which, when put into practice, will help us tremendously in growing in godliness. Responsive Reading of Psalm 77
Scripture Reading: Psalm 1
Text: Psalm 1:1-3
Sermon: "Scriptural Meditation, #1"
Theme: By given grace we meditate on God's Word and do grow
The godly person turns away from the world's wickedness
Rather, we spend our time in Scriptural meditation
By Scriptural meditation we drink in pure water
By Scriptural meditation we "prosper"
This sermon opens up the meaning of purity of heart, and the way that manifests itself in a committed Christian life. The sermon includes a section on the popular evangelical book EMBRACING THE JOURNEY showing how it fails to mention the most important command connected with the Kingdom of God. The message will challenge you not to be Mr. Facing Both Ways in our increasingly anti-Christian culture.
Greetings and welcome! This is our daily devotional for November 6, 2023. Today we continue our series in the Book of Acts in chapter 16 with Paul and Silas in prison and the shining of a good deed in a weary world. Do you let the light of Christ shine through you? Thanks for joining us.
This passage is people of grace living as people of grace. God's love is incomparably great. God's love is foreign to us. We love because things delight us. But God loves the unlovely. When God adopts a child into His household out of the world, the world no longer recognizes that one. Its like being dropped into a foreign country, and the people do not understand the language you are speaking. The world cannot understand us. John reassured us that we are God's children now. Perhaps we are having trouble believing that we are God's child now. The language of our hope is that everyone who has their hope fixed on Christ, will purify himself just as He is pure. We cannot be indifferent to sin. Any position of indifference on our part is an error. The Christian wants to be pure as His Lord. He will not practice sin. He will learn to practice righteousness.
Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
A broken spirit is something that we would be wise to avoid. Today, that would include LIMITING our exposure to the news of the day (which is almost ALL bad!).
