How does the Lord show mercy to those who prefer human wisdom to God's authoritative Word? Isaiah 30 prepares us for the first serial reading in public worship on the Lord's Day. An overview of Robert Murray McCheyne's life of communion with God. A student of Thomas Chalmers , he taught McCheyne 4 key things of importance in relation to holiness. 1st - Seeking approval of God as first principle. 2nd - Never be satisfied with growth in holiness. 3rd - Giving themselves to their true work. And 4 - A direct dealing with men concerning their salvation. It was living according to these principles which made McCheyne a godly man as a minister.

Humility - the answer to all our problems

When a local church congregation, deacons, and pastor (s) are working together, their Christianity is more attractive and the needs of the congregation are met.

What must a pastor do, in addition to affirming the truth? Titus 3:9–11 prepares us for the second serial reading in public worship on the Lord's Day. In these three verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that in addition to affirming the truth, a pastor must avoid uses of the Bible that are not in keeping with the Bible.

Paul's Midnight Praise Service_15 series The Life of the Apostle Paul Acts 16:25-40 In this portion of Acts, we find Paul was in one of the darkest times of his life. Yet, he kept his light burning for Christ, letting it shine before men.Paul and Silas had been preaching the Gospel and a crowd rose up against them. God's men were stripped, beaten with many stripes, and cast into prison in the maximum-security cells.This was their second missionary journey in the city of Philippi.And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. Paul was facing "midnight" circumstances at the midnight hour. This was a dark hour for him, having been falsely accused, the truth ignored, untried, beaten, in pain, and imprisoned. At his darkest hour, he prayed and praised God which are antidotes for trials. God allowed this dark trial in Paul and Silas' life to give them an opportunity to praise Him and be a witness to those in the prison. Paul focused on God and praised the Lord in the face of injustice, injuries, and illegal, inexcusable incarceration. God wants us to learn this, too. He wants us to learn to have joy no matter what circumstance we may face. The Spirit of God will convict every man who ever mistreats a believer. No man will ever escape His convicting power. God wanted the church at Philippi left alone so it could grow and become one of the great ministering churches in the first century. The disciples were released and delivered by the hand of God. God is able to deliver the believer through all trials, and He will deliver and work all things out for good until He is ready to take the believer on home to heaven.

Peter's preaching on the Day of Pentecost is remarkable because of the speaker, the occasion, and the result. It could be considered the first sermon of the Christian era, an enduring example of new covenant ministry. Here we consider three of several noteworthy features: this sermon is gripping and immediate, it is scriptural and reasonable, and it is doctrinal and instructive. All of these things should continue to characterise the preaching that God's ministers provide and that God's church expects.

Key Phrase—v. 2a: "For he [God] says, 'In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.' " (ESV) Aim: To be shown to be faithful in Christ—as God's redeemed church

Matthew transitions to the public ministry of Jesus and proves the Good News of the Kingdom was prophesied, proclaimed and proven.
