Luke 13:[1] There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. If the love of God is irreversible, then what about Israel? Romans 9:1–5 looks forward to the midweek sermon. In these five verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that Israel are the people from whom Christ came, and therefore for whom we should agonize over each one of them that does not have Him.

The death and resurrection of the Good Shepherd secure the life of the sheep. Out of this, the Christ can speak with majestic certainty, offering a gracious gift, a sweet promise, and a firm assurance. The Lord Jesus saves and keeps his beloved people, and in his hands all is well.

In the darkness of apostate Judaism, Jesus proclaimed that He was the Light of the World. The Jewish leadership opposed His claims and sealed their doom. Jesus told them that they would die in their sins because of their unbelief.

One of the issues we have as depraved, sinful people is we put certain others in groups, categories based on their race, intelligence, socio-economic status and fail to recognize that God has no such partiality. Referencing Deuteronomy 10:17-18 and other scriptures, Kevin Pulliam states our obligation to be like God, imitating Christ's love, meeting other's needs insofar as it is in our power to do so.

What do the Jewish people need? Land? Peace with their neighbors? Money?...What they need is the Gospel of Jesus Christ! The Apostle Paul preached the Gospel to the Jew first and then the Gentile, showing his audience that Jesus Christ fulfills the Words of the Prophets, the promise of God. There is only one way to be freed from the debt of sin, and that is faith in Jesus Christ.

Last week we were reminded of who Jesus is. He was with the disciples, veiled in flesh with all the needs of a human body. He felt emotions, was tired, and needed rest. Yet as they forgot His divinity, that God was with them in bodily form, He chooses to remind them by taking them into a storm. In the midst of the storm He shows His ability to keep, sustain, and deliver. Yet Jesus is not done instructing His disciples. He is not just God of creation, He is Lord of all. Join us as Jesus meets with a demon possessed man from the tombs.

Repent or Perish = One or the other

Because everyone dies, instead of living for temporal, earthly riches in this life as the wicked who perish, believers should live for eternal, heavenly riches.

That person is blessed who delights in God's word. Life in this world rests securely in God's loving care, and fear of future judgment is abated because of humility, confession, and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. But this satisfaction is denied those who disregard God and His word, who revel in their disobedience, and scoff at God's righteous standards. Only by forsaking sin and believing Christ can a wicked person be made righteous and enter eternal glory.

Noah had faith and obedience to God that fostered obedience and faith toward his household. May we have that same burden and dedication for our household.

God is working on both ends.

The crowds are relentless in their pursuit of Jesus. This only increases after Jesus feeds the 5,000 with 5 loaves and 2 fish. However, Jesus is not impressed with their pursuit of Him. In fact, He rebukes them because their motives are self-serving and impure. This should cause us to reflect on why we seek Jesus? Is it because we love Him or because we are hoping to get something from Him?
