15- Why are Christians and Catholics held to a different standard by the secular world?
32- Weak preaching, the failure of the modern pastor.
40- Churches are selling themselves, using sales pitches to gain members.
We consider a topical sermon on the promise from God that He will give us pastors after His own heart. We look to the nature of the people of God and why they need pastors and what the heart of such men ought to be for the flock. Jeremiah 3:15.
How do we live our lives to the fullest? How do we "press on toward the mark" and run the race well?
In our continuation of Acts 20, we see how the biblical text answers these questions through Paul's charge to the Ephesian elders.
Join Dr. Ethan Jago as he overviews why we must look to pastors who don't shy away from handling the Word of God, and how we as a people can study out Scripture better than ever before.
Greetings and welcome! This is our daily devotional for November 21, 2023. Today we continue our study in the Book of Acts in chapter 18 with Paul at Corinth, preaching the good news of Jesus to Jews who would not only reject Christ but who would also abuse Paul. What happened as a result? Judgement. And we would do well to pay attention. Thanks for joining us.
What should you look for in a biblical pastor? What are the benchmarks of a biblical pastor?
In today's world, pastors can be more concerned tickling the ears of their people or demanding more from their congregation than preaching the whole counsel of God's Word. So how do you identify what a true biblical pastor is?
In today's message, Dr. Jago unpacks Acts 20:13-23 as Paul outlines the characteristics of a biblical pastor.
One of the big dangers that the Church faces today is bad pastors and selfish leaders. We must beware of those who want respect because of the clothes they wear, or who makes long prayers for pretense. A pastor is nothing more than another redeemed rebel whom God has given the gift of teaching. Those pastors who are intent on their own aggrandizement and fleecing widows are not God's shepherds. The Jewish scribes only saw what everyone was able to give, but Jesus wants only a faithful heart – as was demonstrated by the poor widow who gave all she had to the Lord. Jesus does not act like these scribes. He – the King of kings – humbled Himself and came to serve others and die for sinners. That's who we need to follow and worship – the One Who is our Good Shepherd.
God hath set some in the church...and men have set some in the church. There is a great difference in the two. Those whom God hath set in the church are prepared by God, and those who men have set in the church are prepared of men. The fruit of these two are very different, also. One to life and the other to death. It is the Christian's duty to be discerning in this matter and seek out those that God has prepared and put in his churches, according to what the Bible says about them.
