Your identity is the foundation for understanding and accomplishing the assignments God has given you. They are distinct, but inseparable. Your identity is permanent. Your assignments can (and will) change. However, if you do not know your identity , then your assignments will become your identity AND when your assignment changes or is taken away, you will suffer an identity crisis when the assignment changes.
"Let us go on to perfection" (Hebrews 6.1). The verb here is passive. Another way to express this verb is, "Let us be carried on to perfection." That is, carried by the Holy Spirit as we receive the Word of God. The idea is that we cannot make Christian principles work in our lives just because we will it so.
