In this sermon, Pastor Linehan considers Paul's description of his apostolic mission.

Question – For a sinner to come to Christ what does he have to have spiritually if he is going to going to be saved? What did Zacchaeus have to do here? Answer: He has to have a sight of Jesus. He has to get to the place, either go to a church, or to read the Bible, or to talk to someone who knows Jesus, if he would be saved. Zacchaeus had to climb the tree to see Him because he was short of stature. Question – What does a sinner need to do nowadays, according to verses 5 and 6, to be saved? Answer: He needs to make haste to come down from his high view of things and receive Jesus with joy.

The timing, details, and circumstances of major events in history are orchestrated by the Sovereign God. Here it is seen in using a nameless young prophet to carry out the task first given to Elijah and then handled through Elisha. To top it off, isn't it amazing how God uses "madmen" to accomplish His purposes?

Preaching the gospel

Every follower/apprentice of Jesus is called to continue his mission. We are disciple-making disciples. The one thing we're sent into the world to do is to proclaim the Gospel in word and deed so that others follow Jesus with us. Whatever else we do must serve this end.

What exactly is the love between Jesus and God? What is the most spectacular thing the Holy Spirit is doing in the life of the believer? Our guaranteed inheritance is more than even the rewards Jesus promises us upon our arrival in Heaven. What more do you think there is?
