There was a famine taking place because the enemy had laid siege to the city. On the outside were four lepers who decided to try their luck over in the enemy's camp. What they found satisfied their need or so they thought.
Under the sun, wisdom is often neglected or despised, and sinners find it so easy to ruin things, that success is not guaranteed, except in the final answer to Adam's ruin, grace reigning in righteousness through Christ.
Is there any comfort in the doctrine of predestination—is it just another example of a mean God stealing away all our free will and hope? Some claim this, but such an idea is abhorrent and foreign to Scripture, for God is good, merciful, and kind, and predestination comes from Him and is therefore good, merciful, and kind.
There IS reason to be comforted by the doctrine of predestination. Stay with us and be encouraged by it! Be comforted!
Historically there has always been a conflict between the Kingdom of Men (Satan) and the Kingdom of God. The Author of Esther has in these verses given to us a picture of that conflict, reminding us that this conflict exists, but also to prepare us to know that our God will care for us faithfully through the conflict.
