In this message from our 2 Corinthians series, titled, "The Christian's Only Boast," We consider our subject under these headings, 1) Paul's Shameless Boast, and 2) The Christian's Only Boast. Boasting seems to be a problem even in the churches today, but for the Christian there is a limitation on such boasting. We are only to boast in Christ. As always I claim no originality but will quote, cite, refer, etc. from various sources including: R. Kent Hughes, Ortlund, Kistemaker, Ryken, Naylor, Wilson, and many others.
We discuss the "whisperer". Once we establish that there IS a time and place for proper and acceptable whispering, we confront the issue of those whose whispers, intentionally or not, produce strife and separation. And we explain how we handle such whisperers in the local church. https://bbfohio.com
How important to you is your wall? If you have Facebook you know you must guard your wall form people posting inappropriate stuff on it. If you have a garage with an alley you have to watch to make sure no one tags your wall with graffiti. And border walls are always coming under attack from somebody in some way. Spiritually our walls are more important than any wall this world knows because they guard our hearts and our testimonies. Those are two very valuable things that are our duty to protect.
The Test of Hope. We sing, "When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay..." The question of today's message is simple: "Is He?" When you are teetering on the edge of anger, and depression, and sorrows that threaten to swallow you up, what did it take to get you there and what is the only thing that is usually strong enough to pull you out of it, and get you going again? How difficult is it to get you going again? The man of the world is full, busy, and occupied with the gain, and growth, and projects, and promotions, pursuing desires, chasing pleasures, striving for "successes." These are the things he hopes in/// What does success look like to a man of the world? That will be determined by his expectations! He is doing what is right in his own eyes, setting goals, and using every strategy he agrees with to get there. ……….The appearance of temporary successes in a perishing and fleeting world are not the expectation of the saint of God. The saint enjoys much higher and loftier goals and pursuits; pressing towards the high mark and the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. "It is usual for men to feed themselves with the pleasure of their hopes" -Thomas Manton
To embrace is to bring someone close to yourself, and to hold them close to yourself for a very specific purpose and reason. It may be for a moment; it may be for a lifetime. But something very real and definite is being conveyed in an embrace, and we ought to be able to be understand, when we are embracing someone, what is happening. And, we ought to be able to understand what it means when someone is embracing us. Sometimes we do; and sometimes we don’t. Our verse says that there is a time for embracing, and also that there is a time to refrain from embracing. There are reasons for embracing and there are reasons to refrain from it, and so every Christian should know and have that holy sense about them to know what is the right time and the right place for both. So this is what we want to briefly examine here together this afternoon. We will look 1st – At the time for embracing. And then 2nd – We will follow that up with looking at when it is not the time for embracing. And then 3rd, we will draw a few conclusions.
