What does it mean that Christ took our sin on the cross and gave us His righteousness?
Paul Scharf, church ministries representative for The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry, took this question up with the congregation of Bad Axe Church in Viroqua, Wis., on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, as he resumed a short series from the book of 2 Corinthians.
We thank this local congregation for graciously giving its permission to broadcast this new series here on SermonAudio.com, and we hope that you'll be encouraged as you listen.
Rev. 6, describes the deaths of 43 BILLION humans who have lived on earth. God said, direct war will killed 1/3 of the world's people amounting to over 16 BILLION. History shows that this horrific figure is accurate. The cause is sin, which leads to death, then Judgment, then our eternal destination. The Cause is SIN!
Verse by verse exposition through the book of 1 Thessalonians, with various related scriptural passages
Westminster Larger Catechism:
Q89: What shall be done to the wicked at the day of judgment?
A89: At the day of judgment, the wicked shall be set on Christ's left hand, and, upon clear evidence, and full conviction of their own consciences, shall have the fearful but just sentence of condemnation pronounced against them; and thereupon shall be cast out from the favorable presence of God, and the glorious fellowship with Christ, his saints, and all his holy angels, into hell, to be punished with unspeakable torments, both of body and soul, with the devil and his angels forever.
The evening sermon will be Genesis 4.8, its surrounding context, and help from the Canons of Dort 3.1, 2. Sunday afternoon take some time to read as much of Genesis chapters 1-4 as possible. We need to know and be convinced of man's total depravity if we will also be convinced of our utter inability. God also must save - or as Jonah says at the end of chapter 2 - "Salvation is of the Lord"!Responsive Reading of Genesis 2.4-25
Scripture Reading: Genesis 3.1 – 4.12
Confessional Reading: Canons of Dort 3.1, 3
Text: Genesis 4:8
Sermon: "Total Depravity Proved"
Theme: The sinful choice of Adam and Eve brings the murderous reality of sin to all
To learn the true horror of sin, begin at the beginning
Cain's choice was not first his alone – federal headship
Cain's action to murder arose from his heart
God said He would judge Adam's sin and a dead Abel proves it

Verse by verse exposition through the book of 1 Kings.
30 Then Elijah said to all the people, "Come near to me." So all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down. 31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, "Israel shall be your name." 32 Then with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord; and he made a trench around the altar large enough to hold two seahs of seed. 33 And he put the wood in order, cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood, and said, "Fill four waterpots with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice and on the wood." 34 Then he said, "Do it a second time," and they did it a second time; and he said, "Do it a third time," and they did it a third time. 35 So the water ran all around the altar; and he also filled the trench with water. 36 And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, "Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word. 37 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again." 38 Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!" 40 And Elijah said to them, "Seize the prophets of Baal! Do not....
