In this chapter you will learn about the foundation for marriage. The Bible is very clear in who you are to marry. We are not to be unequally yoked. Is the man you want to marry really Godly? God knows. It is important to be asking God for direction and follow His leading.
An overview of Robert Murray McCheyne's life of communion with God. A student of Thomas Chalmers , he taught McCheyne 4 key things of importance in relation to holiness. 1st - Seeking approval of God as first principle. 2nd - Never be satisfied with growth in holiness. 3rd - Giving themselves to their true work. And 4 - A direct dealing with men concerning their salvation. It was living according to these principles which made McCheyne a godly man as a minister.
Jesus, just prior to this, told His disciples the way to the Father's house where He will be preparing a place for them. Now Christ assures them that they have known and seen the Father through Himself. There is a complete unity between the Father and the Son. However, Philip and the apostles don't find this sufficient and want an immediate display of God Himself. Jesus responds with a rebuke that is tinged with sadness. They have been with Jesus this long and they still don't see it. Jesus's words, person, and works are not insufficient to show the Father but Philip and the apostle's vision is insufficient to see the oneness of the Father and the Son. They don't realize they have known and seen God this whole time in Christ. He says "Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me." This doesn't simply mean "trust Me." But it means that the Trinity is an absolute must-believe aspect of following Christ. They also ought to believe not just on the basis of His words but His works. And it's not just the power behind the miraculous signs but what the signs also signified about who He is and what He's come to do. He is God in the flesh. And then Jesus speaks of His relationship to His disciples. Those who believe in Him will do greater works. It's not that Christians will have a power greater than Jesus to raise the dead or heal or calm a storm; the key is in the phrase "because I go to the Father." The works are still Jesus's and the disciples of Christ will ask to do them in His name and only what He wants to be done will be done. The works are greater because they are after the cross and resurrection but they are not greater than Jesus's.
This passage begins with the Ark in the hands of the Philistines. But what they thought was their victory in taking the Ark turned out to be their destruction. Yahweh must be honored and glorified because he is holy. His presence is death to the wicked, but life to those who are in Christ.
What is the first part of Israel's distinguishing the holy from the common? Leviticus 17 prepares us for the evening sermon on the Lord's Day. In these sixteen verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that the first part of Israel's distinguishing the holy from the common was to be their respect for the holiness of blood.
Verse by verse exposition through the book of 2 Thessalonians. (Sermon also includes the reading and exhortation from the Lord's Table liturgy) 2 Thes 1:3 remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father, 4 knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God. 5 For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake. 6 And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit, 7 so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe. 8 For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything.
