Life happens, life gets in the way, life demands our attention, so what are we going to do about it? Here for whatever the reason Mark turned back. Something distracted him from his course and now he regretted being where he was.
In Luke 10, we are told about a time when Jesus visits in the house of Mary and Martha. Martha is described as "distracted with much serving," while Mary sits at the feet of Jesus. Martha eventually complains to Jesus that Mary is doing nothing to help her, and Jesus responds that Mary has actually chosen the better thing, or that "one needful thing." Our lives often resemble Martha's activity as well as her attitude about what everyone else ISN'T doing. Our problem is not that we are serving too much, but that we do not take the time to "sit at the feet of Jesus" more often so that we may grow closer to our Savior.
In this sermon, we look at an introduction to the Olivet Discourse. I forgot to hit record, so the audio doesn't have the introduction. This sermon is part 1 of a 2 part sermon. I didn't finish my notes as I got stalled on being distracted.
Acts 1:8-14 (KJV) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. 12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey. 13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
John is writing to the church at Ephesus. God saw their works, labor, and patience. They were faithful in their service to God!
But God told them they LEFT their first love. They had gotten busy and distracted!
Have you grown cold and lost your passion?
I. Distractions come to those who are busy.
II. Distractions come from the wrong crowd.
III. Distractions always take you in a downward direction.
IV. Distractions are persistent.
V. Distractions are weakening.
"We have to do right on purpose. We are bent toward sin, and if we do right it is going to have to be on purpose."
Distracted and Dysfunctional
Off assignment... and "forgetting" the benefits and blessings of our King and kingdom living.
"Bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not all His benefits. Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies, who satisfies your mouth with good things so that your strength is renewed like the eagles." Psalm 103

The Scriptures admonish us to lay aside both weight and sin so we can run the race. It is often easy to see the sin we need to stop, but what about the weight (burden, hinderance) that we carry with us? If we are to be ready to run the race we must lay aside our burdens--even the 'good' burdens we carry and focus on Christ.
Paul wrote the book of Romans.
Beseech means an earnest appeal.
Present means to yield. We are to use our bodies in a way that is pleasing to God!
God wants you to live a pure life!
Is your life pleasing unto God?
We should not be conformed to this world!
We should be transformed by your thoughts and imaginations!
Three enemies of ours!
1- Flesh - Old sin nature that you are born with
2- World - The culture that influences us
3- Satan - He wants to get a foothold in your life and destroy you!
For the saved - He wants to hinder you, ruin your testimony, & hinder your fellowship with God.
For the lost - Keep you distracted so you never see the need to be saved!
