DEFEND THE GOSPEL --- Gal 2:11-14
INTRODUCTION
THE INERRANT GOSPEL COMPROMISED BY THE CHURCH (v11-13)
a. Infallible gospel but not invincible believers.
b. Peter succumbed to the pressures of man. v11-12
c. Many, including Barnabas, Paul's missionary companion, also caved in. v13
Believers, set your mind on God's interests, not man's. Matt 16:23
Christ's warning: He urges us to watch and pray. Matt 26:41
ERRANT GOSPEL CONDUCT CORRECTED BY THE CHURCH (v14)
a. In the driver's seat but not irrevocable.
b. Peter's conduct inconsistent with his belief. v14b
c. Paul censured his fellow apostle and those who took the same position. v14a
Believers, stand up for the truth, even though you stand alone.
Christ's example: He stood alone against His accusers. Matt 26:56
THE INERRANT GOSPEL CHAMPIONED BY THE CHURCH
a. Imperfect church but not an incompetent protector.
b. Peter in Acts 15:6-11 is different compared to the Peter in v12.
Believers, stand up again for the truth, even though you fail again.
Christ's assurance: He is always with us. Matt 28:20
Unbelievers, Christ did not come to save the perfect, but He perfects those He saves.
Christ's mission: He came to call sinners to repentance. Matt 9:12
